How to Organize Under the Bathroom Sink: Before and After

If your bathroom cabinet has become a catchall for toiletries, hair tools, and everyday essentials, you're not alone! Organizing under the bathroom sink can be tricky, especially when plumbing takes up valuable storage space.

As part of my annual organizing challenge, I decided it was time to tackle my own bathroom sink cabinet. The old setup wasn't working anymore, and items were being tossed inside without a designated place.

With a few clear drawer organizers and a flat metal hair tool organizer, I was able to create a more functional space and make better use of the cabinet.

If you're looking for practical bathroom organization ideas, here's a look at my under-sink makeover and the organizers I used.

Before: A Bathroom Cabinet That Needed Organizing

The space under my bathroom sink had gradually become cluttered. Without a system for storing everything, it was too easy for items to pile up and become difficult to find.

When organizing under a bathroom sink, it's important to work around the plumbing and make use of the available vertical space. Instead of simply adding more bins, I wanted storage that would help keep smaller items contained and easy to access.

Clear Drawer Organizers for Under-Sink Storage

One of the main changes I made was adding clear plastic drawer organizers in two different heights.

I purchased a set of the 4½-inch-tall drawers and a set of the 6¾-inch-tall drawers. Using different heights helped me make better use of the cabinet space while keeping items organized.

I love that clear drawers let me see what's inside without having to pull out every container. Drawers can also make smaller bathroom essentials easier to group together and retrieve when needed.

Before purchasing under-sink organizers, measure the cabinet's width, depth, and height. Remember to account for the sink drain, plumbing, and any other obstacles that could interfere with the drawers opening.

After: A More Functional Bathroom Sink Cabinet.

The new arrangement made better use of the space under my bathroom sink. The clear drawers helped contain smaller items, while the hair tool organizer gave styling tools their own place.

The goal of organizing a bathroom cabinet isn't just to make it look nice. It's to create a system that makes everyday routines easier and is simple to maintain.

Here are a few tips to try when organizing your own under-sink space:

  • Remove everything first. Take everything out so you can see what you have and identify items you no longer need.

  • Group similar items together. Keep everyday toiletries, personal care products, and hair accessories in separate categories.

  • Measure before buying organizers. Account for plumbing, cabinet doors, and drawer clearance.

  • Use vertical space. Stacking or tiered storage can help you make use of the height available, provided everything remains accessible.

  • Keep everyday essentials within reach. Store frequently used items where they're easiest to grab.

  • Maintain the system. Return items to their designated spots and periodically remove anything you no longer use.

One of my friends used these same clear organizer drawers under her kitchen sink. So these drawer organizers can be used for so many different things.
