Organizing My Mom’s Bathroom Cabinets

How to Organize Bathroom Cabinets on a Budget

Hello, all! Happiest Monday to you!

Today, I'm sharing another organizing project I completed for my mom. Back in January, I tackled the space under her bathroom sink, and it turned out that a few inexpensive bins were all we needed to bring some order to the cabinet.

If your bathroom cabinets are overflowing with makeup, hair accessories, styling tools, and everyday essentials, this simple bathroom organization project may inspire you to tackle your own space!

Start with Simple Bathroom Storage Bins

When I opened my mom's bathroom cabinet, I knew right away that she just needed a few bins to calm the chaos going on in there.

Dollar Tree bins are an inexpensive, quick organizing solution, so we picked up a few and got to work.

I've used these same bins in several other organizing projects around my home, including my linen closet, paper tableware cabinet, and the space under my kitchen sink. I love finding versatile storage solutions that can work in different areas of the house!

Dollar Tree bins are always an inexpensive, quick, organizing solution, So.. we picked some of them up and used them in her bathroom.

Sort Bathroom Supplies into Categories

When organizing a cabinet, I like to pull items out and group similar things together. This makes it easier to see what you have and decide how much storage you actually need.

I didn't get a before picture of my mom's bathroom cabinet, but I managed to take several photos during the organizing process.

Here's how we sorted everything into the bins.

Hair Supplies

We placed everyday hair supplies together in one basket so they would be easy to find.

Hair Styling Tools

Curling irons, flat irons, and blow dryers went into another basket. Grouping these larger items together helps keep them from getting mixed in with smaller accessories.

Always allow heated styling tools to cool according to the manufacturer's instructions before storing them.

Makeup and Miscellaneous Items

We used separate baskets for makeup and miscellaneous bathroom items. Giving each category its own home makes it easier to put things away and find them again.

Toilet Paper and Other Essentials

We also designated baskets for toilet paper and feminine care products. These everyday essentials are much easier to manage when they're grouped together instead of scattered throughout the cabinet.

Organize Hair Accessories in Drawers

My mom already had a drawer organizer that worked perfectly for her hair accessories, so we reused it rather than buying something new.

We sorted the accessories into separate drawers:

  • Barrettes

  • Elastic bands

  • Headbands

  • Bobby pins

Small items like these can quickly become cluttered when they're all stored together. Dividing them into categories makes everything easier to see and grab when needed.

Tips for Organizing Bathroom Cabinets

If you're ready to organize your own bathroom cabinets, here are a few simple tips to get you started:

  • Empty the cabinet first. Take everything out so you can see what you have and clean the space before putting items back.

  • Group like items together. Sort makeup, hair supplies, styling tools, toiletries, and other essentials into categories.

  • Use inexpensive bins. You don't need expensive organizing products to create a functional system. Look for affordable containers that fit your cabinet.

  • Reuse organizers you already own. Check other drawers and cabinets before buying new storage solutions.

  • Make use of vertical space. Choose bins that fit the cabinet height and work around plumbing, shelves, and other obstacles.

  • Keep frequently used items accessible. Store everyday essentials where they're easy to reach.

  • Maintain your system. Return items to their designated baskets and periodically remove products you no longer use.

Before purchasing containers, measure your cabinet to make sure the bins will fit comfortably and remain easy to access.

My Mom's Bathroom Cabinets in Delightful Order

And that's it! My mom's bathroom cabinets are now organized with a few simple bins and an organizer she already owned.

I love how a small project like this can make everyday routines easier without requiring a big budget or an elaborate storage system.
