Fall Home Reset - 8 Things To Organize Before The Holidays

The holidays always seem to arrive faster than we expect! Between decorating, shopping, hosting, traveling, working, and everyday life, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed.

Getting your home organized before the holidays can help make the season feel calmer and more enjoyable.

Before we dive into the 8 things to organize, I recommend starting with decluttering your home. To make it easy, grab my free guide: Declutter and Organize Your Home.

Once you’ve cleared the clutter, you’ll be ready to tackle these 8 areas and get your home holiday-ready!

1. Kitchen:

If you're hosting a holiday meal, your kitchen will likely become one of the busiest rooms in the house.

Clear the counters, organize your cooking tools, organize your pantry and make sure you have enough serving dishes, utensils, storage containers, and other essentials. Doing this ahead of time gives you plenty of opportunity to replace anything that's missing.

Even taking 20 minutes to reset the kitchen before the holidays will make a huge difference. You’ll find plenty of Kitchen Organization Inspiration on the blog.

2. Entryway/Mudroom:

Before guests start arriving, give your entryway a little attention. With extra coats, shoes, packages, and guests coming and going, entryways can become cluttered quickly. Make space for guests’ coats, shoes, and winter accessories.

See how I tackled my own entryway makeover for inspiration.

3. Living Room:

Clean off surfaces and make room for Christmas trees, garlands, ornaments, or other decorations. Remove unnecessary items from the room. A little decluttering first will make holiday decorating easier and prevent the space from feeling overcrowded.

4.Guest Room:

If you're expecting overnight guests, give the guest room some attention before the holiday rush. Wash the bedding, clear out clutter, check that lamps and outlets work.

A few small touches can make visitors feel comfortable and welcome.

5.Bathrooms:

Bathrooms may not be the first thing you think about when preparing for the holidays, but they’re one of the spaces guests are almost certain to use. A quick reset can make them feel clean, organized, and welcoming. Make sure guests have enough towels and basic toiletries. Find Bathroom Organizing Inspiration Here.

6. Kids’ toys & games:

Before new toys arrive, take a little time to organize the toys you already have. The holidays are a great opportunity to clear out the clutter and make room for new favorites. Get rid of broken toys and pieces that are no longer useful.

7. Gift-Wrapping Supplies:

Before buying more wrapping paper, take inventory of what you already have. Gather gift bags, boxes, tissue paper, ribbon, tape, scissors, and gift tags.

Create one designated spot for all your supplies so wrapping gifts is quick and easy when the time comes.

8. Your Holiday To-Do List

Instead of keeping dozens of tasks in your head, write them down. Checking things off a list can make a busy season feel much more manageable. I created a FREE printable for you to snag. It’s in my free printable library:

Make the Holidays Easier on Yourself

Holiday preparation doesn't have to mean doing everything at once. Start with a few small tasks, work through your list gradually, and give yourself plenty of breathing room. We’ve shared a ton of organizing inspiration on the blog through the years - Browse our Organizing Page and Be Inspired!

The goal isn't to create a perfectly organized holiday. It's to remove some of the unnecessary stress so you have more time for what actually matters: enjoying the season, spending time with the people you love, and making memories.

Once you've cleared the clutter, add a few simple fall touches to make your home feel cozy.

May you be a little inspired!
